Leitz Summilux 35mm f/1.4 Steel Rim - The Original Version for the Leica M2  - Video - Jo Geier - Mint & Rare

The very first version of the famous „Steel Rim“ Summilux calculated by Dr. Walter Mandler (V1).

Introduced in 1960 and produced until 1966 in chrome and black finish. A total of around 7.500 35mm Summilux V1 lenses have been produced. The first serial number is 1730001 and the last serial number was 2167700 (though earlier serial numbers of V2 are known to exist, mostly likely because of lens repairs).

 

Product Codes:
11870Z - very first designation, box with velvet insert for lens only without plastic case.
11870 - later, replaced the Z designation on the early box.
Lens Hood: OLLUX (early), 12522 (later)

It was redesigned in 1967 (V2 - no longer available in silver chrome finish) and manufactured with the same optical design until 1995! A total of around 28.350 35mm Summilux V2 lenses have been produced.

11860 - titanium

Leica re-issued this famous lens in 2022 with an E46 filter thread mount including the unique square OLLUX push-on lens hood.
