Leica Beyond Production | Safari Prototype & M-A 0-Series & Gray Sample – Jo Geier - Mint & Rare

In this video, we take a closer look at three exceptionally rare and unusual Leica cameras. These pieces reveal another side of Leica's history, exploring ideas that were never mass-produced.

Leica M4-2 Safari (1979)
An extremely rare prototype. While the Leica R3 Safari went into series production, the M4-2 Safari was limited to a few specimens. Painted in olive green and equipped with a matching Summicron-M 50 mm f/2, it is among the rarest Safari concepts ever developed.

Leica M-A Safari Zero Series (circa 2014)
A camera from a pre-series "0 series" of the Safari version, which was never officially released. With green paint, silver-plated controls, red engravings, and green leather covering, it reflects a refined concept that never reached the market.

Leica M-A Gray Paint Sample (circa 2015)
A rare sample model, likely developed alongside the gray Leica M-P (Type 240). One of the most exquisite modern Leica finishes, combining minimalism with a striking industrial look.

Leitz Xenon 5 cm f/1.5 Fully Chromed (1938)
An extremely rare fully chromed version of the Xenon, including a rare silver chrome name ring – a detail that is seldom seen. Partially coated optics with minimal cleaning marks on the rear lens element, otherwise very clean.

Leica Summilux-M 35 mm f/1.4 ASPH. Silver Prototype
Prototype of the first FLE version (11675) in silver anodized finish with a minimum focusing distance of 0.7 m. In addition to the regular serial number, the name ring bears the engraving “P31/P50.” An exceptional prototype of one of Leica's most legendary modern lenses.
